Why clean laundry soap matters more than you think

Laundry products are rarely questioned, yet they are among the most frequent chemical exposures in modern households.  

Many times, we think about what we put in our bodies, but forget about what we put on our bodies. Clothing and bedding are in contact with our skin for 16 to 24 hours a day. We sleep in our sheets for 6 to 8 hours every night. Towels wrap our bodies when pores are open. Workout clothes sit against warm, perspiring skin. Throughout all of this, we are continuously inhaling and absorbing what lingers in fabric fibers.

Traditional laundry detergents are designed for fragrance, shelf life, and stain removal performance, not necessarily for long term skin exposure.

Many conventional laundry soaps contain:

• Synthetic fragrances often made from dozens of undisclosed chemicals
• SLS or SLES such as sodium lauryl sulfate or sodium laureth sulfate
• Optical brighteners
• Chlorine or oxygen bleaches
• Preservatives and stabilizers
• PFAS often referred to as forever chemicals
• Ingredients identified as hormone or endocrine disruptors

These compounds can leave residues in fabric, especially in bedding and clothing worn daily. Skin is not an impermeable barrier. It absorbs. The air around us carries micro particles released from treated fabrics with every movement. For individuals with sensitive skin, children, or those intentionally reducing toxic load in their homes, this becomes especially important. Our laundry soap was formulated with intentionally selected, simple ingredients that support effective cleaning, rinse clearly, avoid synthetic fragrance, avoid harsh surfactants, avoid known endocrine disruptors, and avoid PFAS and unnecessary fillers.  

We focus on mineral based cleaning power and plant derived essential oils, or no scent at all, so your clothes feel fresh, not perfumed.

Our laundry ingredients and why we use them:

Washing Soda (Sodium Carbonate)
A powerful yet natural mineral cleaner that helps lift grease, oils, and everyday grime. Washing soda softens water, allowing clothes to rinse cleaner with less residue.

Baking Soda (Sodium Bicarbonate)
Naturally neutralizes odors rather than masking them. Baking soda supports pH balance and is gentle on both fabrics and sensitive skin.

Iodized Salt
Supports the overall cleaning process by helping loosen residues and improve rinse clarity. Salt also contributes to fabric freshness.

Epsom Salt (Magnesium Sulfate)
Helps soften water and reduce mineral buildup in clothing and washing machines. Epsom salt supports a clean rinse and fabric softness.
